Gold Award Association (GAA)

All Gold Award-holding organisations are automatically a member of the Gold Award Association (GAA). The GAA exists to share ideas and best practice between members and act as mentors and advisors, where required, to aspiring Gold award winners from among existing Silver and Bronze award holders. The GAA is organised regionally and also acts as a facilitator of regional networking across a broad and diverse range of businesses and organisations.

Annual Defence Insight Briefing

This exclusive event is for the most senior leaders among the Gold Employer Recognition Scheme community. Each Gold winning organisation will have one place available to them, ideally to send its Chief Executive, Chair or other Board-level representative.

The event will be hosted by the two most senior people in Defence – the Secretary of State for Defence and the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS). The event will begin with an update from CDS on UK Defence issues, followed by a networking opportunity amongst fellow senior leaders from across British industry, charities and the public sector.

This event is by invite only for senior leaders of Gold Award holders.


Defence Academy: Skills Under Pressure

The Skills Under Pressure workshop has been specifically developed by the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom. It explores the key themes of leadership and resilience under pressure, all within the impressive facilities and surroundings of the Royal College of Defence Studies.

The course is based on first-hand experiences and lessons learnt by military staff operating under extreme conditions. This is contextualised to help delegates understand pressure and how it relates to issues they may face as leaders in business.

RAF College Cranwell: Leadership Course

A bespoke experience which offers a unique opportunity to develop the leadership, management and teamwork skills of managers and supervisors under the expert guidance of the Royal Air Force.
The programme on offer will contain tailored elements of the

practical selection assessments, including leadership and leaderless exercises, and group and individual planning exercises. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to attempt the computer-based aptitude test as undertaken by potential RAF aircrew.

RAF Halton: Leadership Training Experience

A bespoke experience which offers a unique opportunity to develop the leadership, management and teamwork skills of managers and supervisors under the expert guidance of the Royal Air Force Airman’s Leadership and Command training Centre at RAF Halton.

The Employer Leadership Experience event at the Airman’s Command School (ACS) at RAF Halton is a 2-day Interactive Leadership and Management Training Programme, which highlights the transferrable skills and benefits that service personnel can bring to an organisation.

Royal Military Academy Sandhurst: Leadership Challenge

This outstanding leadership training event is currently available for organisations in the South East of England only (excluding Greater London)with a very limited number available to organisations elsewhere on a first come first served basis.

You will be monitored throughout the day on your ability to work as a leader and as part of a team as you make your way through various command tasks at one of the UK’s most prestigious military locations. You will be tested on your ability to collaborate effectively with strangers, which will directly affect your team’s success at completing each challenge and the overall outcome of the team competition.

Army Officer Selection Board – Insight Day

A unique opportunity to visit the Army Officer Selection Board and discover how the Army selects its leaders.  You will receive a detailed overview of the challenges candidates face when they walk through the gates at AOSB through a series of presentations delivered by the President, Col Lucy Giles, and her team.  This overview will cover not only the process itself but also take a look at just what the Army looks for in its future leaders. Industry Placements For Serving Armed Forces Members

This exciting new scheme places talented military personnel into organisations across industry to develop that individual’s knowledge, skills and experience in the commercial environment. The experience they gain will then inform the individual’s next role within their Service.

The placements typically last between six and nine months and it is usually the case that places join existing delivery teams within host businesses, with defined outputs agreed upfront.

Note: Competition amongst businesses for these placements is high.
